A downloadable game

Game Concept:

This game is a remake of Super Mario Bros 1985. I am combining this game with Mario’s very first game appearance Donkey Kong 1981. It entails a uniquely designed  world 1-1. Then at the end of this level Mario and Luigi go through a caste, world 1-4 but it is changed in design as well. Then replacing the Bowser boss fight with the Donkey Kong game. All the sprites have been redesigned by making it bright and incorporating more detail to the pixels. You can select between 1 or 2 players.

Creation Process:

Using the original Super Mario Bros 1985 game. I’m replacing a lot of the levels to make it a shorter experience.

World 1-1:

I’ve decided to completely change and redesign this level to be more unique and to create a brand new experience for the fans of the franchise. It introduces the enemy, the Goombas. When you reach the castle instead of a level complete pole it will just be a checkpoint. When if you go through the castle you will switch directly to the next level.

World 1-4: The Castle

I’ve decided to change and redesign this level as well. I chose to skip the previous levels as they are unnecessary for the game I want to produce. With the castle level I've decided to remove the bowser boss fight from the game and instead replace that area with a custom red pipe moving forward against the wall. Leading to the Donkey Kong room that initiates the Donkey Kong boss fight instead of the Bowser boss fight.

I’m creating this game as a full remaster and redesigning all the sprites to be much more detailed for this game.

Donkey Kong:

Audience and Competitors:

The intended audience will involve people who really love Super Mario Bros 1985 plus the original 1981 Donkey Kong  as well as old arcade games. It’s also directed to people who are nostalgic with both games. The target audience is for those people who grew up with Mario or kids who have just started playing these Mario games. Since this is a fan-made game there are loads of competitors including Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong, but also the fan-made games that the public have made for both games. I’ve researched a little and have not found any fan-made games that recreates Super Mario Bros with a mashup with

Donkey Kong.

Game Treatment

The games I'm redesigning are the original Super Mario Bros 1985 and the Donkey Kong 1981 and am combining them together to form my own collaboration with both games. This is going to be a remake as well as remastering the sprites. By remaking the game it includes the Donkey Kong game and removing a lot of levels reducing the size of the game. The majority of the game is the same but just editing in a level of Donkey Kong as the Boss fight.

SUPER MARIO BROS (1985) GAME DEFINITION:

Super Mario Bros. (1985) is a classic platform video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It is one of the most influential and beloved games of all time, introducing players to the iconic character Mario, who would go on to become Nintendo's mascot.

The game is set in the Mushroom Kingdom, where Mario, alongside his brother Luigi, must rescue Princess Toadstool (later known as Princess Peach) from the villainous Bowser, the King of the Koopas. The gameplay focuses on running, jumping, and navigating through various side-scrolling levels filled with obstacles, enemies, and power-ups.

Players control Mario (or Luigi in two-player mode) as they traverse through eight different worlds, each consisting of multiple levels, culminating in a boss fight with Bowser or his minions. Along the way, they collect coins, gain power-ups like the Super Mushroom (which makes Mario grow bigger) and Fire Flower (which allows him to shoot fireballs), and avoid enemies like Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and others.

DONKEY KONG (1981) GAME DEFINITION:

Donkey Kong (1981) is a groundbreaking arcade game developed by Nintendo and designed by Shigeru Miyamoto. It is one of the earliest examples of platform gaming and marked the debut of two of Nintendo's most iconic characters: Mario (originally known as Jumpman) and Donkey Kong.

In Donkey Kong, the player controls Mario, a carpenter, as he attempts to rescue his girlfriend, Pauline, who has been captured by the giant ape Donkey Kong. The game is divided into four levels, each with unique obstacles and challenges.

The gameplay involves navigating Mario through platforms while avoiding or jumping over hazards like barrels and fireballs thrown by Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong himself appears at the top of the screen and periodically throws barrels down toward Mario, which the player must dodge or jump over to progress.

Each level has a specific goal, such as reaching the top where Donkey Kong is holding Pauline, and players must navigate ramps, ladders, and platforms to avoid obstacles and reach the goal. The player can also collect bonus items, like a hammer, which gives Mario temporary invincibility to smash barrels.

Donkey Kong was a major success, both commercially and critically, and is widely credited with helping to establish the arcade gaming boom in the early 1980s. It was also one of the first games to feature a narrative and character-driven story, laying the groundwork for future games in the industry. The game introduced Mario, who would go on to become one of the most iconic characters in gaming history, and established the foundation for future Nintendo franchises.
